An expert in the power sector, Mr Yomi Kolawole, on Sunday advised the Federal Government to ensure stable transmission infrastructure before providing additional 10,000 megawatts.

Kolawole, who is the Managing Director, Topean Energy Solution Ltd., gave the advice while speaking with Independent in Lagos.

He said that building on weak transmission infrastructure would result in total collapse or destruction of the whole structure.

The Topean Energy Solution company boss said that currently the country’s power generation oscillated between 1,500 MW to 5,000 MW, adding that most of the generated power could not be evacuated due to weak transmission lines.

“I suggest that Government should first ramp up generation from the present low of above 1,000MW to about 5,000 MW and stabilise the generation at 5,000 MW first.

“Then, this should be gradually increased to the desired generation over time with definite and scalable quantity added annually.

“At the same time, they should strengthen the transmission wheeling capacity to be able to evacuate the generated power seamlessly.

“If this is done, the generation will increase and also we are going to have a strong transmission network that will be able to evacuate all that is generated”, he said.

It would be recalled that on March 21, President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration would ensure steady power supply before the expiration of his tenure through the provision of additional 10,000 megawatts.

The President gave the assurance at the National Economic Retreat held in Abuja.
