With the war already declared against corruption by President Muhammadu Buhari, the President/Convener of the Nigeria Voters Assembly (VOTAS), Mashood Erubami has asked the President and All Progressives Congress (APC) to be prepared to face counter-attack from the scourge.

He therefore charged the President and APC to carry along Nigerians who had for years been victims of corrupt practices and use them as safeguards against corruption resistance.

“with the trial of Senator Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the impending trial of NNPC alleged looters, the APC government should expect serious  corruption fight-back that will be used  to rubbish and distract the war.  Unless the resistance and fight-back of those politically exposed  fraudsters are tackled headlong, the anti-graft  war might be a mirage.”

“Those describing the anti-corruption war as political should be asked how can cases of people who are alleged of mistrust and misappropriation of the revenue of the country be said to be  political”, he queried?

“Right now,  no Ministry, Departments and Agencies are insulated from corrupt practices, unless and until those found culpable are arrested, prosecuted and those found guilty are  punished accordingly, Nigeria industries, and MDAs will not be completely  free from unethical practices and corruption”, he added.

He pointed to the fact that the anti-corruption war “is taking  a rough and unacceptable dimension which must be refocused  to safe  president Buhari  from being distracted, slowed  down and blackmailed.

“We therefore advise that, moving forward and succeeding in his new efforts to clear away all unethical practices from the businesses of government must include putting up serious measures to fight the effects of corruption fight-back that has started to rear its strong head from unexpected quarters”.

“As it is now, it would appear that those who are shouting for the cruxification of corrupt people are themselves not totally exorcised of corruption or understand how corruption connects them. Politicians that are expected to support the  fight against corruption are weak in their resolves as they form the bulk of body guards who follow the corrupt suspects to court or tribunal to answer questions arising from their stewardship”, Erubami noted.
