Ex-Yobe gov, Abba, seeks support for Buhari

A serving Senator and former Governor of Yobe State, Bukar Abba, has called on Nigerians to support the Muhammadu Buhari administration to achieve and make good his promises to the people.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday Independent, Abba maintaining that the fight against corruption and other vices is a collective responsibility of all citizens.

He said: “Agreed that the President-elect has promised to make life better for Nigerians, but, it takes more than the effort of the President-elect to do that.

“The change involves you and I. The President-elect is not a miracle worker and Nigerians have to give him support to succeed in this great task.”

Answering questions on the issue of the leadership and zoning at the National Assembly, which has been on the front burner for sometime now, the Senator asked the committee, which was set up by the party to look into the zoning issue and put into consideration the neglect suffered by the North East and, zone the position of the Senate President to them.

Lamenting the travails of the zone, Abba said the North East had also insurgency, poverty and is most times not involved in the scheme of things in the country.

He called on them to zone the Senate President position to the North East to make the people from the zone have that sense of belonging.

He emphasised that the North Central had held the position for some time now and that it was time for the North East to also be considered as a way of compensation for the zone’s sufferings.

On the likelihood of his candidacy, Bukar Abba said because of his age he was not interested in the position, which is very demanding, stating that he was only advising that his zone should be favourably considered, having suffered so much neglect for a very long time.

Asked if it was the responsibility of the party (APC) to zone the leadership of both the Senate and House of Representatives position to any zone, he said it was the right of the lawmakers to choose their leaders.
