Christ Oboko, a dismissed Police Corporal, alleged to be part of a notorious robbery gang terrorising Port Harcourt Rivers State has been arrested.

Oboko who used to be attached to a special squad code named C4I, in Rivers State was arrested alongside three others in connection with incessant armed robbery and car snatching around Port Harcourt City.

They were arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

The gang were said to have confessed to series of crimes including theft of several vehicles, which they sold to a buyer in Owerri, Imo State.

Oboko, who resided in a Police Barack at Borokiri area of Port Harcourt, was also said to be the gang’s armourer and also provided the guns which the gang used in its operations.

The suspect was also said to bail any member of the gang that was arrested by police.

Oboko confessed to robbing eight vehicles and selling them to one Victor, based in Owerri.

The 35-yeari-old native of Onitcha Ugbo, said that his informant lured him into crime.

He said he joined the Nigeria Police Force in April 2003 and served at  Boroki Police Division before being posted to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and then C4I.

“I started car snatching in 2015 when I met Amandi, he was our informant and he lured me into robbery.   It all started when Amandi brought two vehicles and gave to one Victor Nwogu to sell.  I met them doing the negotiation and from there I offered to join them” he confessed.

It was gathered that the confession of one John Paul Amandi, who was arrested by the IRT operatives deployed to Rivers State by Solomon Arase, the out gone IGP, to combat kidnapping, armed robbery and militancy, led to the arrest of Oboko.

Amandi had confessed that he met Oboko at C4I.

27year-old Amadi from Bayelsa State said he was a commercial bus driver before he went into robbery.
