Barely two weeks after the Rivers State judiciary, which was shut down for close to one year was opened, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Onueze C J Okocha, SAN, has called on the state governor, Nyesom Wike, to carry out a thorough trans formation of that sector.

Okocha however called on government to ensure the abrogation of the law, which authorized the Chief Registrar to assign cases to magistrates and judges.

According to the senior advocate, “the law was not  well thought out; it is an unconstitutional law, and I think the present legislature will repeal it because it is constituted of a team of serious minded legislators unlike what we used to have there before.”

On the opening of courts and full reactivation of the judiciary by the governor, Okocha commended the development.

“As a legal practitioner, I also feel happy that. We have a governor who understands that the three arms of the government as enunciated in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must be in full operation, rendering services to the people of Nigeria, and carrying out their constitutional roles and functions.
