A former Chief Whip of the Ebonyi House of Assembly, Mr Uchenna Orji, has called for support for the incoming Dave Umahi’s administration in the state.

Orji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Monday that the incoming government would have some challenges to content with.

He said that the government needed the support and cooperation of the people of the state to succeed.

Orji, who represented Ivo constituency in the Assembly between 2007 and 2011, said the Governor-elect possessed the credentials for credible leadership.

He expressed the hope that the incoming administration would run people-oriented policies and programmes in line with the Peoples Democratic Party’s manifesto and Umahi’s campaign promises.

“The Governor-elect, Chief Dave Umahi, has all it takes to offer developmental leadership, having acquired enough political leadership experience.

“It was under his leadership, as state chairman of our great party in 2007, that PDP had a landslide victory in the state, winning governorship and all the 24 seats in the Assembly.

“As an incumbent Deputy Governor, his support, loyalty and advice to his principal have made the state one of the most peaceful in the country.

“With these political leadership antecedents, what is needed for genuine development is support and cooperation from the electorate,’’ Orji said.

He further canvassed synergy and collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of government to stem unnecessary frictions.

“I call on both the incoming legislature and the executive to work in synergy and collaborate to advance governance and reduce avoidable political frictions,’’ he said.
