The European Union (EU) ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Arrion, has said that the union would collaborate with the Anambra State government in a five-year programme that would improve the welfare of the people of the state.

Arrion stated this after a closed-door meeting with Governor Willie Obiano at Government House, Awka, on Thursday, September 17, 2015.

The EU ambassador said his visit to Obiano was part of his tour of partner-states to ascertain those ready for more programmes, observing that Anambra had shown interest in sustaining the partnership.

He explained that he had fruitful talks with the governor during the meeting and expressed the hope that their co-operation would be broader in scope this time.

On his part, Obiano said the state did well in its partnership with the EU in girl-child education.

The governor requested that the partnership should spread to more council areas of the state, stressing that Anambra was working out modalities to ensure that communities where EU projects were located would take ownership of such projects to ensure their sustenance and optimal use.
