EU, Anambra Govt To Partner On Citizens’ Welfare

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Arrion, has said that the union would collaborate with the Anambra State government for a five-year programme that would improve the welfare of the people of the state.

The EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Arrion, stated this after a meeting with Governor Willie Obiano at the Government House, Awka on Thursday.

Arrion said that the visit was part of his tour of partner-states to ascertain those ready for more programmes, adding that Anambra State had shown demonstrable interest to sustain the partnership.

According to him, the state did well in the two local government areas as agreed in the article of the partnership.

He explained that he had fruitful talk during the meeting and expressed the hope that their co-operation with the state would be broader in scope.

After the meeting, Governor Obiano said that the state did well in its partnership with the union on girl-child-education.

He noted that this was attested to by the EU ambassador.

The governor requested that the partnership be spread to other councils, stressing that the state was working out modalities to ensure that communities where EU projects were sited would take ownership of such projects to ensure their sustenance and optimal use.

The governor added that the state would not relent in promoting and supporting groups and individuals who would have the interest of the state at heart.
