Ese Brume’s 6.81m jump at the Rio Olympicswomen’s Long jump event could only earn her a fifth placing.
American Tianna Bartoletta won the gold with her fifth round 7.17m jump with compatriot; Brittney Reese winning the silver with 7.15m leap in her fifth attempt. Serbain Ivana Spanovic won bronze jumping 7.08m.
Also Stephen Mozia crashed out of the shot put men event on Thursday. In the qualifying event, Mozia’s 18.98m failed to qualify him for the final. Mozia’s third throw was the only legitimate one as the first two were false.
Hopes of Nigeria winning any Olympic medal diminished as three of her wrestlers – Mercy Genesis, Hannah Reuben and Aminat Adeniyi – were eliminated from the women’s wrestling preliminary round at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday.
Genesis lost 5-0 to Poland’s Iwona Matkowska in women’s freestyle 48kg, Reuben lost 4-1 to Canadian wrestler, Dorothy Yeats in the women’s freestyle 69kg, while Adeniyi also Lost 3-1 to Finland’s Petra Olli in the women’s freestyle 58kg.
