Equities Market Remains Upbeat, Up 0.51%

The Nigerian equities market closed northward for the second consecutive trading day on Wednesday when the two main indicators, the All-Share Index and market capitalisation appreciated by 0.51 per cent each.

The All Share Index appreciated by 125.78 basis points or 0.51 per cent to close at 24,784.95 points as against 24,659.17 points recorded on Tuesday, while Market Capitalisation grew by N43.265 billion to close at N8.525 trillion from N8.482 trillion recorded in the last trading day.

Seplat Petroleum Development Company led the gainers’ table at the close of trading on Wednesday when it appreciated by 285 kobo to close at N335.00 per share, followed by breweries’ major, Nigerian Breweries which grabbed 64 kobo to close at N103.14 per share, Flour Mills of Nigeria gained 64 kobo to close at N20.00 per share, Guaranty Trust Bank added 46 kobo to close a trading at N16.16 per share, while National Salt Company of Nigeria nicked 34 kobo to close at N7.74 per share, among others.

However, petroleum marketer, Mobil Oil, led the decliners’ table when it went down by 225 kobo to close at N149.00 per share, followed by Okomu Oil Palm which depreciated by 48 kobo to close at N30.00 per share, Custodian and Allied Insurance dropped 19 kobo to close at N3.71 per share, Portland Paints and Products lost 13 kobo to close at N2.75 per share, while Airline Services shed 10 kobo to close at N1.90 per share, among others.

FBN Holdings emerged the most traded equity with an exchange of 19.177 million shares worth N64.226 million. It was trailed by Guaranty Trust Bank; having accounted for 19.125 million shares valued N305.399 million, while Zenith Bank sold 15.979 million shares worth N187.242 million, Access Bank exchanged 12.355 million shares valued N45.869 million, while United Capital traded 10.098 million shares worth 14.844 million.
