Enyimba Football Club of Aba boosted its chances of qualifying for the money spinning group stage of the 2016 CAF Champions League on Sunday with a 3-0 bashing of Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the first leg of the second round of the group stage qualifiers.
Striker Mfon Udoh hat-trick did it all for the Aba based outfit in the match played at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt. He scored the first goal with just 10 minutes played from the spot kick before doubling the lead on 56th minute with a tap in from close range off Dare Ojo long range.
Etoile hope of a comeback was dealt a terrible blow following the sending off of defender Ghazi Abderrazak in the 71st minute after his second bookable offence. Udoh completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time with a right-footed blaster. He is now the leading scorer in the Champions League with seven goals.
In the other match of the day, late goal helps DR Congo’s Vita to edge Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0. The goal was scored by Kule Mbombo on 90+2’ minutes.
Mamelodi Sundowns will need to once again turn around a Caf Champions League tie in the return home leg after losing 1-0 away to DR Congo giants AS Vita on Sunday.
On Saturday, former winners, ES Setif of Algeria snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw away in Omdurman against El Merreikh of Sudan, while holders TP Mazembe is on the edge of crashing out of the championship following its 2-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.
Tanzania champions, Young Africans came from behind to hold Al Ahly of Egypt 1-1 in their first leg clash on Saturday in Dar es Salaam.
Ahly, record eight time winners went up after 11 minutes through Amr Gamal who finished off a superb Hossam Ghaly chip from a free-kick.
The Egyptians have failed to qualify for the last eight since winning their eighth title in 2013.
