Two-time CAF Champions League winner, Enyimba International of Aba, inched nearer Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) N80 million ($400,000) largesse following its qualification for the second round of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

Enyimba on Sunday upstaged Vipers Football Club of Uganda 2-1 on goals aggregate. The Nigerian team overcame its first leg 1-0 deficit a fortnight ago by winning 2-0 on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

However, it has a second round hurdle to cross before qualifying for the group stage which guarantees a minimum of N80 million ($400,000). Should Enyimba places third at the group stage, there is N100 million ($500,000) up for grabs, while it stands a chance of winning N140 million ($700,000) if it reaches the semis. Enyimba is guaranteed N200 million ($1,000,000) if it reaches the final while it will win N300 million ($1.5m) if it wins the trophy for the third. This amount excludes $10,000 per goal that will accrue to it from the group stage.

Mfon Udoh broke the deadlock on 29th minute from the penalty spot, before Udoh scored his second on 61st minute.

Speaking to Independent immediately after the encounter, captain of the side, Chinedu Udorji, said he was pleased to lead his side to the next round, saying it was not yet uhuru.

“We thank God for this feat. The Ugandans are so strong, but we were determined to go through and it worked for us,” he said.
