To ensure a smooth transition of power in Enugu State next month, Governor Sullivan Chime has appointed a Transition Committee headed by his Deputy, Rev. Ifeanyi Nwoye.

The committee has the mandate to pilot the process of transferring power to the Governor-elect, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on May 29.

It was reliably gathered that Chime quietly constituted the committee last week shortly after he returned to the country from medical check-up in London.

Although the constitution of the transition committee was not made public, the members have already started meeting at the state campaign office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu.

Others in the transition committee are Secretary to State Government, Amechi Okolo, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Victor Atuonwu,  Attorney General of the State, Anthony Ani, and his Information counterpart, Chuks Ugwoke.

Also on the committee are the State Chairman of PDP, Ikeje Asogwa, PDP Women Leader, Oby Nwofor, and representative from the state branch of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

Inside sources, who confided this development in our correspondent, said the Governor deliberately did not make the committee public, as it was his wish to make the handover low key because of the cash squeeze in the state, caused by drastic drop in Federal Allocation from Abuja.
