Charles Ogbo Asogwa, Commissioner for Housing, Enugu State, has emphasized the importance of discipline, urging all golfers to imbibe it, without which no one can excel in the game.
The commissioner in an interview said that it would be difficult for Nigerian golfers to excel, particularly at the international level because they lacked discipline.
The commissioner believed that some Nigerian golfers live a life that was at variance with the principles of golf.
“Nigerian golfers are failing to excel at the international level because they are not disciplined.
“Golf is a game that brings out whom you are. If you are a cheat, it will show, if you are a liar, it will show, if you are a drunk, whatever it is, it will reveal,” he said.
He said that he discovered that Nigerian golfers after their game go drinking and even get drunk instead of doing a postmortem of their game. The foreign players don’t do that and that is why they are excelling.
“Golf is lucrative and self sustaining if only the player is disciplined and I encourage the upcoming players to take advantage of it by obeying the principles of the game.”
