Minister of State for Education, Prof Viola Onwuliri, has advised Nigerians who are bitter and aggrieved over the results of the March 28 Presidential election to follow the example of President Goodluck Jonathan, who she said voluntarily chose to relinquish power in the interest of the nation.
Speaking to newsmen shortly on arrival from Abuja at the Sam International Cargo Airport, Owerri, the minister argued that the action of the president was unprecedented in the nation’s political history and has made him a hero in and outside the country.
She said the president had the power to stop the election results, cancel them or sack Prof. Attahiru Jega, but “he chose to accept the results of the election in good faith and also congratulated the president-elect on his victory so that the nation will keep on moving and for us to continue to remain as and single indivisible entity”
The minister, who debunked allegations of electoral malpractices levelled against the Peoples Democratic Party and INEC by the Imo State Government as laughable and baseless, said that it was officials of the government that stockpiled ammunition and were arrested by security agents.
She also descended on the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Chidi Ibeh, over his allegation against her, insisting that the commissioner who was reportedly manhandled by soldiers on the election day, was responsible for his woes..
