Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has inaugurated a water reticulation project in Uyo, the state capital, at the Dr. Ann Ward/Gynecology Ward at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anua, and the rehabilitated Children and Male wards of the hospital, as part of activities to mark the 28th anniversary of the state.

Briefing newsmen in Uyo on other activities lined up to mark the celebration, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, said the governor would also swear-in the Chairman of the state’s Council of Chiefs and launch the “Akwa-Ibom Dakkada” Spiritual Rebirth, Moral Transformation and Re-orientation campaign, besides flagging off the reconstruction of three collapsed bridges and internal roads in Obot Akara Local Government Area.

Other activities include the flag off of the dualisation of Oron-Uyo Road while the anniversary thanksgiving service with the theme, ‘The Glory of the Latter House Shall Be Greater,’ holds on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at the Ibom Hall, Uyo.

“Going down memory lane, the creation of Akwa Ibom State 28 years ago by the Federal Government marked a remarkable watershed in the socio-political and economic history of our people.

“Our forebears had long yearned, desired and aspired for a state which would help them actualize their dreams and visions as a distinct people in the Nigerian nation,” Umanah noted.

The Commissioner said the creation of the state therefore fulfilled the dream for the people to achieve self-worth, political emancipation and economic prosperity as, according to him, since the state came into existence, it has witnessed different leaderships ranging from military to civilian administrations where the various leaders initiated and implemented different programmes and policies, aimed at building a strong egalitarian and virile state for politically enlightened and economically empowered citizenry.
