It was a day of double blessings for the people of Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State when, at the weekend, Governor Udom Emmanuel visited the area to declare open the construction of a dual carriage road and to restore electricity to the community which had been thrown into darkness in the last five years.

Addressing the people, Governor Emmanuel stated that the project was undertaken to drive home his campaign promise of opening the hinterland for even development.

He noted that the road which traverses Uyo, Okobo, Oron and empty into the East West Road, is strategic as it links the state capital with the coastal communities.

Governor Emmanuel said that his administration was committed to the development of the coastal areas as a way of gearing up for the expected boom in economic activities as the Ibom Deep Seaport will soon be operational.

He added that he was on a discussion with a Holland-base firm for the development of Oron beach.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Ephraim Inyang, said the construction of the road which would Span 31.4 kilometers would be executed by a multinational firm, Renaissance Construction Company.

He noted that the road construction which incorporates three Bridges and lightings would be executed in two phases and would be completed in thirty six months.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Okobo Local Government Council, Attah Okon, said Okobo people were proud to be associated with the governor in his bid to relink Uyo with Oron through Okobo.

He commended the Governor’s initiative and pledged the cooperation of the people to enhance the success of the road construction.
