El-Kanemi Dents Enyimba’s Title Chase

League leaders, Enyimba International of Aba, suffered yet another defeat on the road to El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri. This is the second defeat to the two-time African champions in as many matches, as its ten-match unbeaten run prior to week 29 encounter was brought to an end by Giwa FC of Jos.

El-Kanemi dictated the pace of the game in its adopted home ground, Katsina, scoring two goals within the first 18 minutes of the encounter through Yarhere and Mustapha. It was defender, Ifeanyi Anaezemba, who reduced the tally to 2-1 for Enyimba in one of the week 30 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

In other matches, Abia Warriors beat Warri Wolves 2-1 in Umuahia. Heartland played out 0-0 with the visiting Lobi Stars of Makurdi. In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists compounded the woes of Bayelsa United, as the South/South side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat.

Nasarawa United continued its fine run lately with a 1-0 win over visiting Rangers International of Enugu. Similar score line was recorded in Jos, as homers, Giwa FC, beat Sharks of Port Harcourt in a very tensed match. In Ibadan, former champions, Shooting Stars, avoided a late threat by Akwa United to end the game 1-0 in its favour.

In Nnewi, IfeanyiUba forced visitors, Kano Pillars, to a 1-1 draw. The champions took the lead in the early minutes of the first half before the host equalised towards the end of the encounter.
