At least eight people were feared dead after gunmen opened fire on a supermarket in

Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday.

The incident is coming a couple of weeks after some armed men shot and killed a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Katsina-Ala, Chief Atoza Ihindan.

Confirming the incident, Benue State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Austin Ezeani, however, said only two people were killed while three others were wounded and are presently receiving treatment in hospital.

Ezeani lamented that the killings have moved from Katsina-Ala to Ukum, even as he warned those with arms to surrender them or face the wrath of the law.

Daily Independent gathered that the gunmen stormed the supermarket at about 10am while customers were making purchases, and opened fire on them, killing eight people.

An eyewitness said, “There is tension in the area. People are scampering for safety. Families have fled for fear of being killed and the development has left social and economic activities in total disarray because at the moment nobody can get anything to buy in Zaki-Biam.”
