Egypt Names ‘Killer Squad’ Against Nigeria

Hector Cuper, Egypt coach, on Wednesday named a ‘killer squad’ that will play against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Kaduna on March 25, 2016 and the reverse fixture in Alexandria on March 29, 2016.

Roma’s Mohammed Salah and Arsenal’s Mohammed Elneny headline a squad dominated by players from Zamalek and Al Ahly. Veteran goalkeeper Mohammed El Hadary made the cut which is a reward
for his stellar performances in the Egyptian top flight this season. First choice goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy has shaken off a knock and will be available for the game against the Super Eagles.

The coach included nine Al Ahly players – Ramy Rabia, Ahmed Hegazy, Sabry Rahil, Mohamed Hany, Momen Zakaria, Abdalla El-Said, Ramadan Sobhy and Amr Gamal. Also Zamalek produce nine players, which are Ahmed El-Shennawy, Hamada Tolba, Ali Gabr, Ahmed Dweidar, Tarek Hamed, Hazem Emam, Omar Gaber, Ayman Hefny, Mostafa Fathi.

Egypt leads the standings with six points after two rounds played with a goal difference of +7, Nigeria is second with four points and a goal difference of +2. The group winners will qualify for the African Cup of Nations in 2017, whilst the two best ranked runner-ups in all groups, will also qualify
for the competition.
