The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) yesterday took to custody the former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido.

The Spokesman to the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed this to Daily Independent in Abuja, yesterday.

While confirming the arrest, Uwujaren said: “Yes, we took him to custody in preparation for his arraignment. You know we have been having issues with him for a long time now. Today we picked him up and we will arraign him in court.”

It would be recalled that Lamido has been having running battle with the EFCC on alleged fraud of 1.3 billion naira.

Since 2014 Lamido and his sons, Aminu and Mustapha Lamido, were alleged to used their positions to embezzle funds from Jigawa State coffers.

Consequent upon that  Lamido’s sons were arrested in 2013 by the EFCC, while their father enjoyed immunity as governor.
