Yola – Officials of Adamawa State government have been thrown into a state of confusion following the  arrest of Abdulrahman Abba Jimeta, in Yola, Chief of staff of Adamawa State governor, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Eye witness accounts had it that Abba Jimeta was picked and whisked away to an unknown destination by EFCC, in gestapo fashion at the weekend.

Abdulrahman Abba Jimeta, the chief of staff to Governor Bindow,  also served in the same capacity to former g?overnor Murtala Nyako.

Details of why he was arrested was not clear but sources say it may not not be unconnected with alleged report on a property along Karewa Road ,opposite Bekaji Housing Estate, in Yola.

An EFCC source said Abba Jimeta’s arrest is sequel to his involvement in a scam amounting to over N2.88 billion for the renovation of Yola International Hotel that was awarded since Murtala Nyako’s regime when he was still the Chief of Staff.

Findings  revealed that the contract for the project had been  reviewed upward  almost three times, and the payment made nine instalments? with the then government of Murtala ?Nyako paying as much N2.664 billion leaving a balance of just N204 million.

The scam we gathered continued with the Bindow administration who again reviewed the contract upward on assumption of office as the g?overnor of the state under the supervision of ministry of culture and tourism.

Efforts to get ?Wilson Uwujaren,? EFCC spokesman proved abortive as his GSM lines  were switched?-off .

SMSs? sent to him were not? responded to but an impeccable source in the anti graft agency confirmed the arrest.

“Yes,he is being interrogated over some issues, but you know you can get details as I am not authorized to talk to the press,” said the official.

Also, ?a close associate of the detained chief of staff who preferred anonymity confirmed that,” He was only invited over a plot of land that he bought from Jafaru Malik, they took him to Gombe to show proof? of ownership,I wonder how people peddle rumour”, he said.

Another source also revealed that the same Abba Jimeta allegedly organized a prayer worrior group which includes both the Christians and Muslims and squandered over N200 million Naira , perhaps in anticipation of the arrest.

Meanwhile, tension has engulfed a cross sections of the ruling APC in the state with Jimeta’s  supporters  vowing to resist moves by the anti graft agency. EFCC, they claimed  is working with  political foes of Jimeta with the aim of tarnishing his reputation.
