Benin – The  Edo Unity League, a socio-cultural organisation in Edo State, on Thursday announced its support for Mr. Godwin Obaseki, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group said it was backing Obaseki “because we are convinced  beyond reasonable doubt that he has all it takes to boost the economy of the state and create employment for the youths, if elected governor of the state come September 10, 2015.”

The Edo Unity League’s position was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Jonah Aigbe, Deputy Chairman of the EUL, stating that, after reviewing the credentials of all the governorship candidates, ahead the September 10 election in the state, “without prejudices to the political undercurrents of factional primaries or in fighting between aspirants of APC and PDP (People’s Democratic Party), our members and trustees overwhelmingly endorsed (Godwin Obaseki) because of his dependable business and economic success, history and acumen.”

“That Edo people need desperately now is a marshal who can navigate our state’s micro economy through the troubling macro economy of Nigeria with positive results; so we cannot afford to gamble with our people’s survival at this time, with a national economy that is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the hangover by successive regimes since 1999.

“As a group that pivots the issues of collective interests and wellbeing of Edo people, we can’t tolerate any primordial propaganda that portrays our people as gullible as to accept or support a suicidal political excursion from November 11, 2016, which is the take off date for the incoming governor. Hence, we have pledged our unwavering support for Godwin Obaseki.

“It is noteworthy to state that we are a socio-cultural group, and we take special interest in policy evolution and sustenance, and chief of all problems or attendant risk factors confronting Edo State is the lack of a virile policy framework, and this is what has taken Lagos far ahead in the comity of states in Nigeria, and we can’t afford to be indifferent in thoughts and in deeds at this critical stage of our state, and Godwin Obaseki altruistically represent this assured-aspiration,” the group said.
