The budget was scaled down from N159.398.802.906billion to N127.016.936.976billion.

The revision was sequel to a letter titled “A bill for 2015 proposed revised budget estimates” from the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole to the assembly requesting for the revision of the already working budget as a result of the current economic downturn by the fall in the prices of oil in the global market.

The letter which was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere and dated June 3, 2015, stated that in view of the present economic realities which have been occasioned by the drastic fall in the international oil price and the consequent reduction of revenues from the federation account it has become imperative to review the approved 2015 state budget.

“Accordingly, it is being proposed that the approved 2015 budget be reviewed downward from N159.398.802.906billion to N127.016.936.976billion,” it added.

The lawmakers which rounded off the fifth session of the Edo state House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended the relevant house rules to give immediate passage to the governor’s request.

Also, Governor Oshiomhole approved the appointment new Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service.

A release signed by Prof Julius Ihonvbere, Secretary to the State Government, gave the names of the new Permanent Secretaries as D.I Dania; A.E Okoh; Dr M. Agberior; A.O Idanwekhai; O.S Uhunmwangho; C.I Avielele; A.I Omoruyi; P.O Aibueku; M.A Ikoghode; Dr. C.O.U Aibaogun; M.O Omozeghian and Lucky A. Wasa.

The statement added that the new appointees will be sworn-in today Monday, June 8.

The governor also inaugurated an Administrative Panel of Enquiry on the suspension of Etsako West Local Government Chairman, Hon Alasa Mohammed with a charge to look into the immediate and remote cause of the protest which occurred recently at the premises of the Etsako West Local Government Area.

Oshiomhole said, “On the 22nd of May, there were reports both in the Print and Electronic media as well as security reports about protests around Auchi but thanks to the intervention of the Nigerian Police and Operation Thunder storm, it was brought under control. “There were all sorts of allegations behind the protest though some of those involved in it include the leadership of the Student Union Government in Auchi Polytechnic and some other persons.

“The issue as to who is responsible, who organised the protest, financed it, instigated it is the matter for your investigation.

“We have acted on the basis of these allegations but it remains an allegation until they are proven. Though yours is not a judicial enquiry, yours is an administrative panel which will help us to establish the facts, not necessarily the law about what happened.”

He said the terms of reference of the panel is to “examine the immediate and remote causes, actors and the implications of the said protest; to look into the alleged involvement of members of the Student Union of Auchi Polytechnic in the said protest with a view to identifying their possible sponsor and/or those who instigated them and any other matter which could be relevant to helping us understand what led to the protest and how to avoid a future occurrence.”

While expressing confidence in the members of the Panel of Enquiry, Oshiomhole thanked them for accepting to serve believing that they will carry out the exercise as objectively as possible.
