Asaba – Ifeanyi Esuoza, State Publicity Secretary, Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State governor and his All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state over what he described as devious plot to instill fear among the people and scare aware legitimate election observers.

Esuoza stated on Monday in Asaba that the harassment was with the dubious intent to subvert the electoral will of the people and engender a political conundrum in the aftermath of the September 28, 2016, Edo State governorship election.

He said that the numerous incidences perpetrated with the full consonance and compliance of the security agencies in Edo State, have not only provided topical references for news reportage the media but at the same time portends a dangerous adventurism by an out-going potentate with the inherent potential of truncating the democratic process and retarding the impressive gains of our democracy in the country.

Ezuosa said they have observed with disgust and palpable apprehension, the overbearing manifestations of what can best be described as outlandish propaganda, political shenanigans, brazen impunity and an authoritarian agenda of hostile, selective and dictatorial intimidation meted out in audacious installments on not only the loyalists and interests of the PDP but indeed on the good people of Edo State.

‘’We refer to several well-documented acts, including the dramatic postponement of the Edo guber polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies on a flimsy and unsubstantiated security threat excuse, the several unprovoked arrests, harassment and detention of PDP chieftains, loyalists and faithful in Edo State, the deployment of a senior Police officer from Edo State for insisting on doing the right thing,’’ he stated.

He lamented the “the speed with which confessed APC militants have been released from custody with a pat on the back, while innocent Edo citizens have continued to be incarcerated for refusing to be labeled APC members, the continued detention of some journalists in the state and the transfer of several senior journalists with a national television network out of Edo State, for providing balanced coverage of political activities in line with the ethics of their revered profession.’’

“And most disturbingly, the recourse to violent attacks on PDP assets and personnel, the worst of which was the shameful assault on the gentle, elegant and cerebral Dr. (Mrs.) Idia Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the Edo State First Lady in-waiting, while on the campaign trail.

He said that the list of such acts of desperation by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and suspected APC thugs, cronies and acolytes in the months, weeks and days preceding the Edo State governorship election, both pre and post postponement of the polls, was endless.

“We wish to place on record that as a responsible political party and indeed in recognition of the existential historic bonding between Edo and Delta states, we have brought our observations to the court of public opinion so that their mandate will not be cunningly taken away from them again by the same combination of lies, cheap propaganda and deceit, that had brought so much suffering and hardship on Nigerians in the last 15 months,’’ he stated.
