Edo pledges to end problems at Tayo Akpata University

Edo State Government has promised to put an end to the problems faced by staff and students of the College of Education now known as Tayo Akpata University, Ekiadolor.

Governor Adams Oshiomohle assured the staff of the institution of his readiness to find a lasting solution to the crisis that has placed the institution in shambles these past few months and put an end to the strike embarked upon by the staff of the institution four months ago.

The Governor spoke through the Peace and Conflict Resolution committee chaired by retired General Charles Airhiavbere, when the committee paid a visit to the college in an attempt to resolve the crisis.

The General who pointed out that as his place of birth he decided to take it upon himself because the love the Governor has towards the institution to call for a dialogue between himself, the executives of various union bodies of the institute and the lecturers so as to appeal to them and also brainstorm together to ascertain what will be done to achieve harmony and solutions to the situation.

Airhiavbere, who was received by all the executives of the professional unions and the  staff members of the institution stated the reasons for such meeting, which he referred to as apolitical but strictly academic.

He described  lecturers as agents of development in any society as they are responsible for moulding children into better men and women.

“I believe your profession is so unique as you are charged with the responsibility of training our children into becoming responsible youth and better adult, so your case is so dear to the Comrade Governor which is why he asked me to speak with you so that we can seek a lasting solution to all issues that will be discussed here today,” Airhiavbere added.

Chairman, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Mr. Fred Omonuwa, commended the Governor for choosing the person of Airhiavbere who is highly respected in the community where the institution resides and the trust the  staff repose in him.

Airhiavbere thanked the union executives for a peaceful discussion and promised to work with the constituted committee of the institution and take their grievances to the Governor to see to the resolution of the crisis faced by the institution.
