EDO State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the state government has spent the sum of N150million to celebrate the victory of Gen. Munhammadu Buhari (rtd) in last week presidential election,

The party also alleged that the government was seeking loans to support its candidates in next week House of Assembly elections and therefore advised  all Edo voters to resist the plan which it said was capable of undermining their sovereignty at the polls.

These were contained  in a statement issued by the state chairman of the party Chief Dan Orbih.

According to the statement  “Edo PDP observed with shock and disbelief Governor Oshiomhole’s lavish celebration of the announced result of the presidential election that he contributed nothing to.

The APC states where huge figures were recorded in the election were modest in their joys. “A lot of things were wrong with the governor’s action:  (a)   A whooping sum of N150,000,000 was expended in the needless waste that was the celebration at a time when local government employees and staffers of the state government are owed backlog of salaries.

“(b). Business activities in the state were disrupted as a result of the declaration of a public holiday for the aberration that was the victory party.

“( c). The financial cost of the celebration to Edo taxpayers is huge and represents a visible slap on probity and accountability for which Edo PDP has correctly accused Governor  Oshiomhole’s government,

“The real purpose of the bacchanal is not lost on the discerning Edo people. Governor Oshiomhole, with the now infamous party unsuccessfully tried to cover up the shame of the defeat which he received on March 28, 2015 at the polls and which was a clear message from Edo people that the ground has shifted from beneath the governor’s feet”

However, in his reaction, State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Godwin Erhahon simply said, “Chief Dan Orbih should not be taken serious; Edo People knows that he is a liar and whatever figure he mentioned is not correct. The event was not sponsored by the state government but by well-wishers”

On the allegation that the state government plans to obtain loans to support APC candidates in next week’s election, he said, “Chief Dan Orbih has no way of knowing why the state government is planning to take a loan”

“Orbih and the PDP are in a state of helplessness as the Abuja Contractors and oil bunkers who distributed billions of Naira during the last election are no longer willing to fund their campaigns since the APC won the Presidential election”

Chief Orbih urged all Edo people to, as they did in previous election, to come out and vote the PDP House of Assembly candidates adding that voting the PDP will ensure that the legislature was not pocketed by the executive and were not just mere rubber stamps of the executive arm of government as was experienced in the APC government in the state.

The PDP, Edo State congratulates and thanks Edo people for their support at the polls and wish to urge them to exemplify their displeasure with the present APC government at the polls again on April 11, 2015 so that the change to a more receptive and sensitive government can be achieved.
