Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aihanuwa Eregie, has assured that the
state government would only engage the services of reputable
pharmaceutical companies for the procurement of drugs and dressings in order to have safe and quality drugs and dressings supplied to public health facilities.

The commissioner gave the assurance in Benin City during the bids opening for the procurement of drugs for health institutions in Edo State for
the year 2015.

Presiding over the bid opening ceremony which had in attendance members of Essential Drugs Programme Executive Committee (EDPEC) and a representative of the State Procurement Agency, Eregie said the bid opening was done in a very transparent manner so as to ensure that government procures quality drugs for the benefit of the people.

Assuring those who submitted bids that the Essential Drugs Programmes Executive Committee would be just, fair and professional in the bids
considerations, she stated that the Ministry of Health was much committed to due process, play and transparency.

The Project Manager, Essential Drugs Programme (EDP), Dr Solomon Ikpefan, had announced that 65 companies made the pre-qualification list in this year’s bidding which, he said, are done annually.

Responding on behalf of the bidding companies, Mr. Ebohon Ernest of Global Healthcare, commended the commissioner and EDPEC for the transparent manner in the bids were handled and appealed to her to
ensure a close monitoring of the process so that all the companies would be happy with the end result.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the formal opening and signing of the bids documents by the commissioner, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Health, Dr Peter Ugbodaga, and the representative of the State
Procurement Agency, Mr. Paul Aigboje.
