Chief Solomon Edebiri, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the Edo State September 10 governorship election, said that government’s neglect of some of the critical areas of development was responsible
for the current economic drawbacks in the state.
Edebiri, who spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Benin, promised to ensure that human capacity development would be given priority, if elected governor.
“You can’t expect development of the economy when you have simply
abandoned such critical area such as human capacity building.
“Any government that wants adequate development must invest in its workforce. Their intellect has to be broadened and sharpened at all times to be at their best.
“The state-of-the-art of the infrastructure you put in place will definitely be a waste if the workforce lacks the requisite up to-date knowledge to manage them.
“I admit that there has been a movement in the graph of development of Edo but the truth is that those critical areas that drive the process of development have been neglected,’’ he said.
Edebiri said: “Being an agrarian state, we will ensure that government grows the agriculture sector as a business venture to create employment and improve the economy.
“We will not have to over-burden the people with double taxation but to create wealth that will encourage them to want to work and earn a decent living,’’ he said.
“I therefore appeal to my party members not to allow any party leader to manipulate them to mortgage their rights for a pot of porridge,’’ he said.
