A northern leader, Suleyman Ndanusa, has expressed confidence in the incoming government of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) to lead the country out of its doldrums, but warned that people should not expect a magical turnaround of the economy from the President-elect.

Ndanusa, who is also the president/Chairman of Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), spoke in Lagos on Wednesday May 6, 2015, said: “Turnaround of nations is not because of magic (wand of a leader) or we wouldn’t need elections.

“It won’t be easy but where there’s determination to make it as we have in Nigeria by both the leadership and followership, the desired change will come. This is another chance; we have every potential we can think of; let’s make it happen.”

While lauding the cooperation and peaceful transition of power at the centre, the former Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman advised that things should be done right, adding that the calls on the incoming government to fight corruption was key to addressing the country’s problems.

“If you look at the injury corruption has done to this country, you will realise by looking at countries not fighting it, that it pays to eradicate it. Nigeria must base things on merit, and root out corruption. Corruption is everything you do that is against the rule of law. It is beyond stealing money.

“We must do things right; not arbitrarily, be a country where things are done on merit and Nigeria will advance in every sphere of life.”

On ICSAN’s recent induction of 94 graduands, 57 associates and 14 fellows, Ndanusa urged them to pursue impeccable terms and impact their society.
