Ebonyi: 3,000 Water Boreholes In Bad Condition

The acting General Manager of the Ebonyi Rural Water Supply and

Sanitation Agency (EBRUWASA), Mr. Sunday Opoke, has said that over 3,000

water boreholes are decrepit in Ebonyi State.

Opoke pointed out that the situation has made it difficult for the rural dwellers to access water in the state, a development the medical experts in the area told Daily Independent could have caused the cholera outbreak

that has claimed over 40 lives since this year.

“The agency recently visited Ndieze-Ndiogbu community in Izzi Local

Government Area of the state, one of the affected communities recently

ravaged by the cholera in the state and discovered that five villages in the community don’t have boreholes at all.

He noted that the available bore-holes in other villages are

dilapidated, as the agency discovered that the boreholes sank by some

Non-Governmental-Organisations (NGO) lacked technical finesses as most

of them were not properly supervised, were shallow and had poor water
