•  says INEC Boss Won’t Conduct Free, Fair Elections in Kogi, Bayelsa

By Rotimi Akinwunmi –  ABUJA

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  on Wednesday alleged that the new Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Lawal Daura is a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who ordinarily should not occupy the position.

The party said it has evidences to prove that Daura was the head of the Intelligence Committee of the APC Presidential campaign organisation whose allegiance to President Muhammadu Buhari is total, but whose allegiance to the nation is doubted.

The party which also raised allegations that her  members in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states are being harassed by the operatives of the DSS, warned that the harassment should be stopped forthwith to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Uche Secondus, Acting National Chairman of the PDP who raised the allegations at a press conference held at the party’s National Secretariat, also said emphatically that the party is not comfortable with the continued retention in office of Amina Zakari as the the Acting Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who he said will not conduct a free and fair election any day, anytime.

Secondus at the press conference insisted that the occupier of the office of DG DSS should not be a partisan person, and noted that it has become necessary for the President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve Daura of his current job in the interest of the nation.

According to him, keeping Daura in office is a means of putting an APC lackey in a powerful saddle which will give the ruling party unquestioned power to harass and intimidate opposition party members.

“He will not be just, he’s partial and partisan. President Buhari should save the nation the impending pains by reviewing the appointment of the DG DSS now in the interest of peace” Secondus said.

The opposition party chairman also complained about the harassment of members of his party in Rivers State and Akwa Ibom  by the operatives of the DSS who he said, are trying to assist the ruling APC take the states from the PDP by force.

He alleged that the DSS have been harassing officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and have also been tacitly harassing Tribunal members with a view to ensuring that the PDP does not get favourable judgement from the Tribunals in both states of Rivers and Akwa Ibom.

Secondus noted that both APC and PDP are at the Tribunal and therefore, the DSS should stop harassing anyone, but allow the law be implemented properly so that good and acceptable judgement will be delivered by the Tribunal.

He warned that should the harassment and intimidation continue, there may be total breakdown of law and order and anarchy might be witnessed as the affected people might not take the matter with kid gloves.

The opposition party also reiterated its rejection of the appointment of Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) saying her continued stay in office is set to jeopardise the electoral system.

Secondus said that the party does not have confidence in the ability and willingness of the INEC boss to conduct a free and fair elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
