FORMER National Organising Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umaru Dahiru, has said that forcing the party’s National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, to resign will not augur well for the reconstruction of the party.

Dahiru, who is the Baraden Bauchi, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Bauchi on Thursday May 14, 2015.

According to him, any attempt to force Mu’azu and his executive to resign  would reduce the PDP to a regional party.

He said that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP must not be blamed for the party’s poor outings in the general elections, saying that there was no basis for comparism between the UK election and the Nigeria election.

He said: “In the UK, the political party conducted its campaigns but in Nigeria the campaigns were carried out by support groups and a high powered team whose members were selected by the top.

“Apart from sidelining the party in the campaign, there are other two issues that are responsible for the defeat of the PDP at the just concluded general elections. The remote causes responsible for the defeat of the party include glaring impunity, high level corruption, uncontrolled insecurity, injunction, Godfatherism”

According to Dairu, the immediate cause of the defeat of the party in the presidential election and the loss of the party in most northern states was because of the use of hate campaign against the north, most especially the one by Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, which he said led to the huge defeat suffered by the party at the 2015 general elections.

He also observed that the unguarded utterance by the ‘Big Madam’ made serious negative impact in the north across ethnic and religion saying “when the unguarded utterance continued unabated, over 90 per cent of the supporters of the PDP had a rethink about voting for the PDP”.

“Our patriotic courageous nationalists” who formed the G18 group and later elevated to G34 for daring the “lion” and resurrected democracy in Nigeria and G34 became the foundation of the PDP.

“Their initial intention was to create a large party of national spread devoid of sectional, tribal or religious sentiments. The party was expected to be the biggest party in Africa and to exist for 60nto 100 years,” he said.

Dahiru said that the problem of the PDP started from 2010 systematic hijack of the party by sycophants, warlords, government executives and “some friends of the federal government.

He said “Key decisions on important issues started to be taken outside Wadata Plaza. This informed why the Executives of party were reduced to rubber stamp or toothless bulldogs. This situation became manifest when the Wadata Plaza was not allowed to execute the electioneering campaigns. The NWC members were not only co-opted as it pleases the power that be”

Dairu thereby appealed to party faithful to come together and rebuild the party saying “most of our party men and women are ready to come back to the party if all the aforementioned issues are addressed with sincerity.”
