A group, the Niger Delta Youths for Peace and Development (NDPD), weekend, described the call by those it called political jobbers on President Muhammadu Buhari to dissolve the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as mischievous, crude political miscalculation, and an attempt to further exacerbate the crisis in the Niger Delta region.

The group, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kenneth Edayi, at the end of its emergency meeting in Warri urged President Buhari to ignore the call for the dissolution of the Board, insisting that it was a statutory one where its members were expected to serve out its tenure as provided by the law setting it up.

He noted that those calling for the dissolution of the NDDC board were ignorance of the Act establishing it in the year 2000 with defined objectives.

The group recalled that the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on assumption of office dissolved all the board of Federal parastatals, but in his obedience to the rule of law, did the proper thing by allowing members of the NDDC board to serve out their tenure.

It therefore said that the call on the President to dissolve the board of the NDDC was not only mischievous but also an attempt to relegate the Commission from a statutory commission to a mere federal parastatal.
