The governor made the denial on Sunday while speaking in a Ramadan Tafsir at Gwallaga Juma’at mosque.

Governor Abubbakar expressed disappointment over the text message he received from a citizen that accused him of deliberately refusing to settle the salary arrears of workers despite collecting money from President Muhammad Buhari.

According to him, “Somebody sent me a text message blaming me of creating unnecessary hardship on people by not paying them their salaries despite the fact that governors were given money by President Muhammad Buhari to pay such arrears of salaries.”

He continued: “As I’m talking to you today no single kobo was given to me to pay backlog of salaries; it’s just our effort that we were able to pay the last month’s salary.

“It’s not our wish to be giving excuses on the challenges ahead but previous administration in the state has left the backlog of salaries which the present administration is battling with because we met the financial position of the state in a mess.”

The Governor said payment of June salary is in progress and assured workers that before the Sallah period, he would do everything possible to reduce the arrears of salaries in order to reduce the hardship of the civil servants.
