A chieftain of the PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Ayiri Emami finally defected from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that the PDP umbrella is now leaking and cannot longer provide the needed shelter for Deltans.

The former PDP chairman of Warri South-West council said the declaration Wednesday at his residence when he hosted members of the Delta United for Change, lamenting that he has been working for the party for a long time and can no longer continue, with the wind of change blowing across the political landscape of Nigeria.

He said he, his people and political associates have been leaving in fear of the unknown for quite some years now with the ruling PDP in power, adding that with the APC now at the helms of affairs at the centre it is only wise for him to cut his teeth with the party having served his masters loyally for so many years.

He said he defected after due consultation with a wide spectrum of leaders and associates, saying that the culture of impunity in the PDP and the country at large was too worrisome for comfort and that with the APC and the caliber of the President-elect, the Nation is bound to witness some reasonable level of sanity and respect for the rule of law.

Chief Ayiri who openly displayed his APC membership card, charged all Deltans to go out on Saturday and cast their votes for Chief O’tega Emerhor, the party’s gubernatorial candidate, said Delta state cannot be in opposition.

He said though the big names in the APC today in government are not around due to fear of been seen as disloyal to the present government, they all would soon rear their heads at the appropriate time, saying that though the fight has just started, they are going to give the PDP sleepless nights because they are the field soldiers of the PDP before and knows the tricks of the party.

Secretary of the Delta United for Change, Jaro Egbo, revealed that if they cannot beat PDP through normal voting process they are sure of occupying Government House through the grace of the law court as the PDP is certain to engage in vices that are against the electoral laws of the land in their usual practice all in a bid to win the elections.

He said they held a serving PDP Minister from Ughelli to ransom during the last Presidential and National Assembly polls and were able to defeat him in his home unit to the ward level because he could not rig the election in those places and charged the people to be vigilant come Saturday, April 11, 2015.
