Petitions and complaints have continued to trail the results of the last Saturday governorship and House of Assembly elections in Delta State.

In a petition dated 11th April, 2015, signed by Hon Benjamin Okiemute, Member, Delta State House of Assembly, DSHA, representing Isoko South Constituency 1, addressed to the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, he has called for the cancellation of the results of the election in some wards.

Decrying being rigged out by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mrs Orezi Esievo, he alleged that fake police officers, soldiers and thugs were used to chase him and his agents out of the collation centre.

While calling for the investigation of the Card Readers used for the election, Essien urged INEC to cancel the entire Emede ward results on grounds of electoral malpractices.

Similarly, House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the Isoko North constituency, Delta State, Dr. Andrews Elueni, also called for the cancellation of the House of Assembly polls in the constituency, alleging the connivance of the PDP with soldiers to rig the election.

Elueni, in a statement, alleged that he was arrested at about 12:30 am by men of the 222 battalion of the Nigeria Army, saying he was “detained till 2pm of 11th April, 2015 till almost after the conclusion of the election.”

Alleging that the army dispossessed him of the sum of N1, 280, 271 and $311 a laptop that contained vital information regarding the election and party agents tags, he said the items were handed over to the police at the Ughelli A Division.  He added that he was unable to distribute transport money and tags to party agents, “thereby giving PDP a free reign during the election.”

In a similar development, House of Assembly candidate of the PDP, in Ethiope East Local Government constituency, Delta State, Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo, also called on the INEC, to uphold the cancellation of the three wards as decided by the Returning Officer.

Akpowowo insisted that he should be declared winner of the election with the remaining eight wards. He alleged that some official of the commission was making moves to collate the three wards results that were cancelled in the presence of all stakeholders at Isiokolo, headquarters of the local government area.

Noting that the decision to cancel the three wards was based on the fact that card reader was not used in the affected wards, he said the card reader was used to detect the discrepancies in the unit results turned in from the three wards.

Expressing disappointment, the House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Delta state, Chief Tony Azuya, equally raised the alarm over the alleged fraud that characterized the House of Assembly elections in the state.

Azuya, who called for the cancellation of the election in some wards in Oshimili North Constituency where the PDP massively rigged his party out, described the results that emanated from the exercise as a complete subterfuge.

Azuya, accompanied by hundreds of protesters, including his Director-General, Prince Afam Enemokwu, in Ibusa, his home town, yesterday, wondered why men of the state Police Command aided the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to swindle him of his victory.

According to him, the PDP thugs that besieged polling units were supervised by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ibusa, who he said, is a sympathizer of the ruling party’s candidate, Princess Pat Ajudua.

In another development, the House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Isoko South 1 constituency, Mr Okiemute Essien, has called for rerun election in the constituency.

Member representing Ughelli North constituency II at the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Jenkins Gwede is not left out, has rejected the house of assembly election results in the constituency, alleging that the exercise was marred by irregularities.

Gwede, who is the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, for the election held that the polls was only peaceful in Uwheru ward 9, alleging that “in Ughelli wards 1/5, 2/6 and 3/7 it was rigged PDP, and there was snatching of ballot boxes; they printed fake result sheets and all of that. In theses wards there was no election.

But the State House of Assembly elect for Aniocha North Local Government Area, Engr Obi Okocha has attributed his victory in the last Saturday election to divine benevolence.
