The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the verge of losing another of its prominent member to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the person of one of its past National Chairman, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor.

Ogbulafor who rose through the ranks in the party as National Secretary up to the peak of National Chairmanship became prominent for his boast that the PDP will rule Nigeria for 60 years.

Since the March 28 presidential election which the PDP lost to the APC, a large chunk of PDP stalwarts have jumped ship to the APC.

Ogbulafor apparently negotiating his way into the APC was at the National Secretariat of the party yesterday (Friday) to hold a secret talk with the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

Speaking with newsmen at the end of the closed-door meeting with Oyegun, Ogbulafor denied making moves to join the APC in the immediate but admitted that he could do so soon if circumstances warrant it.

He was with the APC National Chairman for about 45 minutes.

Below is the transcript of the short interview Ogbulafor granted newsmen at the APC National Secretariat.

“We are surprised you are here sir?

I just came back into town yesterday and I came to congratulate the national chairman of APC for a job well done.

Don’t you think some of your party members, PDP, might read meaning to this?

How can they feel offended? I am still in PDP.

Are you considering joining APC?

Not yet. Even if I will, not yet

How do you feel about General Buhari’s victory at the poll?

I am very happy.

But sir, we recalled that you were the one who said PDP will rule for 60 years?

Well, when they dismantled governors’ forum what do you expect?

But you are coming to associate with APC?

I am a Nigerian.

Won’t it be treated as anti-party by your party?

I am a Nigerian. APC has produced the president of this country and I have to congratulate him for job well done.

Are you still in PDP?

Why not?

How would you described the election in Abia your home state?

When they conclude it you will get the result.

How soon should we be expecting you in APC?

I have been National Chairman, National Secretary and Minister. I will remain in PDP until it becomes necessary to make a change”

Reacting to the inquiries by newsmen, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Segun Oni said there was nothing bad in Ogbulafor joining the APC if he so wishes.

He noted that it will not be a bad thing for even the current National Chairman of PDP, Adamu Mu’azu to visit the APC Chairman and rejoice with him over the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential election, even as he expressed optimism that it will soon become a reality.

“He came to visit his friend and to congratulate us. That is the way politics should be played. Even if he were still the national chairman of PDP and he comes here to congratulate our national chairman and meet some of us his friends that will be good politics.

“I am looking forward to our friend, the national chairman of PDP visiting us here to say congratulations. As politicians, we must salvage this process called politics, we must rescue it from charlatans.

“We must give it a colour of decency; we must give it a colour of maturity. I will expect that even if he does not have time to visit us now, he should send us a letter.”
