Former member of the House of Representatives, Halim Agoda, recently called member of the all Progressives Congress (APC) to his Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government country home to thank them and take stock of the recent elections in the state.

Agoda, who had been elected into the House of Representatives three times in the past, was a senatorial candidate of the APC in the last polls.

According to him, “APC remains the strongest and most viable party in Nigeria”.

“Many of us are at the tribunal to correct the wrong done to us by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I know that the APC has a greater majority in the state. We therefore decided to call the members together to re-strategise to come together as a big family and move ahead as a formidable party. We are here today to demonstrate that the APC is strongest part and is the party to watch.

“And as leaders of this party, we are ready to build this party to the greatest height”.

Agoda told the party faithful who gathered in his residence that such meeting is going to be continuous, adding that members would do well to ensure consolidation of the party in the Delta Central Senatorial District in particular and the Delta State in as a whole.

He noted that the fact that the electorate voted for the party demonstrated that the people are happy with it (party). He reiterated that the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has been given a mandate by the people and would surely change the fortune of the people for the better.

Agoda pointed out that a cardinal objective of his membership of the APC is to build it into a formable force in the polity.

One the slogan of the APC which is ‘change’, Agoda said the change the party was clamouring for is to change the fortune of the people and that of institutions.

He noted that “when one is given a responsibility, one should not see it as a family affairs but a responsibility to the citizens of Nigeria. If you take a privileged position as a personal estate or as a fortune for you to amass wealth for your future generations that is unborn, then there is no change. The above scenario is what we been having for many years in this country”.

Agoda added: “Now starting from the leader, General Mohammadu Buhari, a humble personality, a man who does not like a flamboyant life style, a man who has been President of this country and cannot boast of properties across the breath and length of the country; he was a Minister of Petroleum Resources that has no oil block, no fuel station, a former PTDF chairman, former Governor of old Borno State, he puts on moderately priced attires. It is therefore that quality of the leader that he exhibits that the followers should emulate.”

Agoda also reminded party supporters that Nigeria has spoken, adding that even when APC and Buhari have no money, they voted for him.

“Even with the strategy of PDP to postpone the election to give them added advantage they failed woefully as the people spoke in favour of General Mohammadu Buhari as the President-elect of this country and we have full confidence on him.”

Also contributing to the debate at the gathering, Women Leader of the APC in Delta State, Mrs. Oyubu, stated that the meeting was long overdue, adding that after the election they have now sat down to rub minds together to look how the part performed, to know the weakness and how better they can strategise to become stronger and a formidable party.

Oyubu described Agoda as a leader with great courage, the immediate past candidate of the APC in the Delta Central Senatorial District.

She described Agoda as a through politician, noting that “this is the best time to restrategise to become stronger and that is why Agoda called the meeting”.

Oyubu added, “The party members should be stronger for what they have learnt in the election. He all knows that there was no election in Delta State where accredited card readers were lower than the votes cast. Before now, when you win an election, you rejoice, but you can see that nobody is rejoicing in Delta State for winning an election. They know that the right of the people was robbed and we are not happy as a family.”

She restated that people have high expectation from the APC because it promised a lot of things at the federal level “and we know that we are going to perform well. We know that among the challenges facing the country, power and energy are essential, and to know how best they can re-orientate the mind set hence they were at the meeting”.

In his own remark, Julius Okpoko, who is the Minority Leader in the Delta State House of Assembly, said he had contributed his quota to the development of his constituency through the building of schools and infrastructural development.

“Now that the APC is on ground it behoves us to tap into federal level to achieve development for the people. Though the expectations of the people are very high, we wish to admonish them to the part chance so that when the development starts coming up, it would spread evenly,” Okpoko said.
