Chairman of the President’s Cup Committee (PCC) and former captain of the Super Eagles, Nwankwo Kanu, has urged Corporate Nigeria to support the competition now in round of 32 in Abuja.

He said that the tournament was conceived to discover raw football talents from the nation’s nooks and crannies, and challenged public spirited Nigerians and corporate bodies to lend support to the cup where he said future national team players would be discovered.

“In Nigeria, we always complain that we don’t have players, young players. Yet when you knock on doors for assistance, people will not respond. This is not good. For us to get to this stage we struggled because the funds are not there; there’s no corporate body to support, what we get is promises. We need to get more than that. But we are hopeful that they will cone; this is the first edition we take experience we gained from this one and ensure we sustain it,” said Kanu.

Meanwhile, Minister and Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC), Tammy Danagogo, has urged whoever may succeed him in office to sustain the President Cup for the benefit of Nigerian youths.

He said that the competition was in keeping with presidential directive to develop sports and football in particular from the grassroots.

The minister said that given the quality of young stars so far uncovered by the cup, sustaining it would boost grassroots football and complement effort of the Nigeria Football Federation at fishing out young players for the national teams.
