The Cross River State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its eight months strike embarked upon by its members in the state following demands of financial autonomy and independence from the judiciary branch of the government among other demands.

This follows the signing of an MoU by the Cross River State government and a representative of the body at the Executive chambers of the Governor’s office in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Speaking after the signing, Governor Ayade assured of keeping to the terms and agreement contained in the MoU with a promise of setting up a committee that will work out modalities of implementing its provisions.

Gov. Ayade speaking further disclosed that, the suspension of the strike and resumption of work by judicial workers in the state will speed up actions that will lead to the decongestion of the prisons and police cells which has for the past months harbored suspects awaiting trial.

He urged the workers to remain the voice of the voiceless and also keep to their own terms of the MOU signed.

National Treasurer of JUSUN, Jimoh Musa Alonge, who represented the National President of the union, announcing the suspension of the strike, urged his colleagues to resume work with immediate effect.
