Criticisms Trail Presidential Aide’s ‘Go And Fight Vandals’ Comment

Femi Adesina, special adviser to the President on media and publicity, has come under fierce criticism for saying Nigerians who are complaining of prolonged blackouts and poor power supply should go and “hold the pipeline vandals” who are said to be the major cause of the blackouts.

Adesina, during an interview on Channels Television at the weekend said: “If you are crying that you are in darkness, go and fight vandals.”

Reactions from many Nigerians have been swift and hard on Adesina, former managing director of The Sun Newspapers. Nigerians who have taken to social media to critise the presidential aide, accusing him of being “insensitive”, “aloof” and “out of touch with the realities of common people” in Nigeria.

Notable among the social media critics was UK-based journalist, Kayode Ogundamisi, who tweeted: “Femi Adesina, 28th March 2015 exactly a year today. Nigerians MARCHED4BUHARI to deal with the VANDALS. Do U get that?”
