For criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over the recent appointments, some northern youths have disclaimed Alhaji Usman Shettima, the National President of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF).

It would be recalled that Shettima in a recent interview granted to Vanguard Newspaper criticised President Buhari for lopsided appointment that favoured only people from North-east.

But in a statement by National President, North-East Youth Peace and Development Initiative, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari,  said the people of North-east youths dissociate themselves from Shettima’s comments as leader of AYCF.

“That Alhaji Usman Shettima, the self-acclaimed Arewa Youths Leader, is not known to the North-East Youths. We completely distance ourselves from the various statements accredited to him in the Vanguard Newspapers in the ongoing anti-corruption war,” he said.

He further stated that the self-acclaimed Arewa youth leader who believed that President Buhari was making some lopsided political appointments never enjoyed the mandate of people from North-east to become the leader of AYCF.

“We never gave him our mandate to be Arewa Youth leader. In the past, he had spoken and defended his Southern brothers when they were in government. We know Shettima to be a Southerner (Born and lived in Port-Harcourt) and not an indigene of Northern Nigeria,” he stated.

Kyari described the statement by Shettima in the interview that President Buhari was selective in his anti-corruption campaign is most unfortunate.

“We state that for Shettima to say that Arewa Youths will not work with President Muhammadu Buhari is an affront on the sensibilities of the indigenes of the North.

“No sensible northern youth can come under the leadership of Shettima Usman who never care for the plights of the Talakawa and has never contributed to the peace, growth and development of the North and so nobody can make him a leader,” he stated.
