Crisis has hit the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the alleged arrest of a chieftain of the party and former governor of the old Ondo State, Bamidele Olumilua.

Reports from the Action Group caucus of the APC alleged the arrest was on the orders of some state officials of the party.

However, the Police Public Relation Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, has denied the report, saying the former governor was never arrested .

Spokesman for a faction of the APC in the state, Segun Dipe, in a statement, said, “Facts available have revealed that Barrister Omotosho was acting to the instruction of a former governor of the state.

“It befuddles us that it is in this age and time, when the rule of law holds sway, that Barrister Omotosho and his co-travellers would embark on such journey to nowhere, insulting the personality of Barrister Olumulia and, by extension, APC in Ekiti State and Nigeria with such baseless allegation.

“Assuming they did so out of ignorance or blind loyalty to somebody, the police should have been well-informed and more professional in their handling of the matter.”

Meanwhile , the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the arrest of Olumilua, allegedly on the orders of some leaders of the APC in the state.

In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, the PDP noted that Olumilua, as an elder statesman, should be accorded due respect and not dragged in the mud on the altar of differences among leaders of the APC.

“We are concerned by the arrest of former Governor Bamidele Olumilua on the orders of some APC leaders because of the jostling for ministerial position from the state.

“Inasmuch as it is an APC affairs, but the PDP-led government in Ekiti State will not fold its arms and watch the state thrown into chaos.

“We have to cry out now because some mischievous APC leaders may begin to insinuate that the state government has a hand in the unfortunate incident. Our administration in the state is peace-loving and would also not allow anybody or group throw the stare into chaos,” he said.
