P/Harcourt – The Secretary General of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Bristol-Alagbaria Emmanuel, has said   that there was nothing wrong in President Muhammadu  Buhari  probing the former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, Jonathan is a Nigerian and a former President and can be probed if need be..

He, however  added that “such investigation must be carried out with decorum”, adding that if the probe of Jonathan is discovered to be a witch-hunt as being peddled recently, “it will be too bad for Nigeria as a country”.
He said that since Jonathan is a Nigerian and a former President, he must be probed, if need be.

“We are not against the investigation of any Nigerian as far as that person had been in the position of power before. But everything must be transparent. Don’t probe because you want to whittle the influence of your opposition,” he said. “On that same note, if you are investigating Jonathan, you must also investigate former Presidents Olusegun  Obasanjo, Ibrahim  Babangida, Theophius  Danjuma and other rich Nigerians,”.
He said.

While appreciating the outcome of the corruption war so far, Bristol also stated that it was necessary for the likes of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, TY Danjuma and Bolaa Tinubu to explain how they come by the “stupendous” wealth they have suddenly acquired between 1980 and now if they had lived basically on their basic salaries alone.

He alleged that the wealth of General Danjuma alone could develop the entire Niger Delta region to the taste of any modern city in the world.

“Does the Amanyanabo of Bonny and Nembe own oil blocs or vessels? They don’t. But they are the owners of the oil and gas that pride the country as one of the chief producers of these products.

“Tinubu sponsored the last APC election alone. Let him tell Nigerians how he got his wealth. If this anti-corruption fight must have a human face, then the likes of Tinubu, Danjuma, former president Olusegun Obasanjo must be invited by the EFCC and ICPC.

The Ijaw youth leader noted that since Danjuma makes his billions from the oil blocs he owns in the Niger Delta, “how many times has he brought his children to spend holidays in the region! How many companies has Danjuma built in the Niger Delta to employ the youths of the region who have been rendered jobless and hopeless because their only sources of livelihood, fishing and farming have been destroyed by pollution.”

He urged the President not to be cowed by anybody irrespective of his or her social standing in the ongoing crusade to recover looted funds from privileged Nigerians who embezzled the treasury using their various offices at the time.

The youth leader maintained that if the former service chiefs like Alex Badeh and could be detained, “it shows that no Nigerian is above the law and that is why, Jonathan Danjuma, Tinubu and Atiku amongst others must be probed to ascertain the source of their wealth.”

The IYC scribe also challenged the President to probe his own political party, All Progressives Congress, APC to know where and how it got the money to run the kind of campaign the party did last year. “It is important to tell Nigerians who paid for the private jets that the President used during the election campaigns to run his campaign train”.
