Head of Public Affairs, Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Brian Etuk, on Thursday urged the Federal Government to regulate the importation of film production equipment in Nigeria.

Etuk said that the corporation should be involved in the certification process before allowing such importations.

“Government should provide funding windows for equipment acquisition by filmmakers, film training institutions and production companies because of its high-tech features.

“Aside from the above, filmmakers should submit themselves to training and retraining regularly at the National Film Institute, which offers degree, diploma, certificate and implant short courses in Film Arts.

“Generally, the passage of the new NFC Act empowers the corporation to become a film commission to undertake both commercial and non-commercial activities. Continuous empowerment of the NFC and the National Film and Video Censors Board is required to carry out the statutory functions fully without hindrance and to provide adequate funding for the two film agencies,” he said.

Etuk observed that filmmakers must abide by the rules and comply with all requirements while striving always to develop good stories and content that meet global standards.

According to him, the vision of the corporation is to develop a leading film industry that projects Africa’s culture and tradition to the world.
