Following Alex Okorigwe popularly known as Alex O’s revelation that he will never pay any young artistes for a collabo, the music industry has once again began another round of debate on whether it is ideal to do that or not. It would be recalled that sometime ago, it was reported that D’banj allegedly snubbed Dr. Alban when the latter asked D’banj for a collabo.

It generated a lot of heat then but it was also alleged that D’banj apologised. Ice Prince was also accused of collecting huge sums of money for up and coming acts who feature him in their videos or songs but his record label refuted the allegation. Cases of such abound in the industry. Though a lot hailed Alex for his blunt stance citing various examples how possible for instance it is for Onyeka Onwenu to pay Omawunmi for a collabo. Another hinted that the artistes that she asked to do a collabo with her said before he would feature in the video, he will choose the producer and director of her video.

Yet others asked if 50 cents would pay to have Drake feature in his music video. In any case, as the debate rages on, Alex O gave reasons for his comment: “The issue here is not that another artiste should not be remunerated for being part of a recording work. When there is a collaboration work, the managements of both artistes work out the earnings from the proceeds for both artistes. If an artiste asks me to pay money upfront, as a condition for which I would be allowed to perform with him or her, then I will not be interested. This is my own personal take. Other people may do it differently.”
