Lawyer who graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, class of 1993/1994, have appealed to the abductors of Wole Akindutire, their classmate, who is based in Port Harcourt to release him.
Akindutire was kidnapped on March 16, 2026 by unknown men who whisked him away to an unknown destination and have held unto him since then.
In a statement jointly signed by Mrs Abiola Ajayi, Olusola Young and Abdul Kehinde, chairman, secretary and public relations officer, respectively, which was issued in Lagos on Monday and made available to Independent, the OAU Class of1993/1994 appealed to the kidnappers of Akindutire, who is married and has four children to release him unharmed.
The group said that they are making the public appeal for the release of Akindutire because it was unusual that 12 after he was abducted, his family has not been contacted.
They said that the matter was formally reported at Ada George Police Station in Port Harcourt, Rivers State when it happened and the police told the family it was a case of kidnapping and requested them to lie low, as the kidnappers could soon establish contacts with them in order to demand for ransom in exchange for the freedom of the man.
“But, 12 days after, no ransom has been asked of the family or friend as is the usual practice when someone is kidnapped. This has forced us to join friends, family members and other well wishers to urge the police and other security agents to do all that is necessary to secure his release with immediate effect,” the statement said.
