CMCL: Odoh Sets Course Record As Tourney Ends Today .Grabs N1.2m In Port Harcourt Classic

Andrew Oche Odoh, Nigeria’s number one professional player has set a new course record of 66 par to erase SundayOlapade’s 67 par at the ongoing CMCL Golf Tournament in Ondo State.
The tournament holding at the Smokin Hill Golf Club, Ilara-Mokin, Akure saw Odoh playing 5-over (+5) in the first round and 6-under (-6) in the second round of the game to achieve the record.
The performance brought Odoh to the second position behind Mike Ubi’s level par in the first round and 3-under (-3) in the second round in the first two days of the tournament that teed off on Tuesday May 17, 2016.
In an interview with Independent before the tee off of Thursday’s events, Odoh was confident of winning the tournament which hevhas won a record four times and has total N5 million for winners.
Commenting on his chances of winning the tournament which has a great presence of top Nigerian professionals he said, “This tournament started on a high note and lots of the top professionals are also participating. That makes it tough competition.”
In the same vein he said, “But in every tournament, I try to beat the golf course not anybody; because I know once I achieve that the game will be in my hands. I have achieved that in the second round and I’m inching closer to another CMCL title.”
The tournament which teed off with the “Professionals and Category-1 amateurs” had two amateurs – God’s-Mark Isife and Abdullahi Y. making the cut, while Sunday Olapade, Emos Korblah, Bako J. are among the professionals participating in the week-long event.
Meanwhile, Odoh enriched his earnings in the game with about N1.2 million winner’s prize in the Port Harcourt Classic, a regional tournament which has $50,000 prize money.
Odoh defeated Ghanaian duo of Vincent Toga and Korblah to the second and third positions respectively in the Port Harcourt Classic to win the title.
