Reverend Olumide Kehinde, Chairman, Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), has charged Nigerians to be honest in their business activities, saying being honest is the basic principle by which the nation’s economy can be revamped quickly.
Kehinde spoke at a training workshop organized by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-Entrepreneurial Development Centre for Betheljoy Professionals Awareness Initiative and Cooperatives held at Multi-Purpose Hall, Union Baptist Church, Osogbo, Osun State.
Reverend Kehinde who is also the Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, lamented the current economic meltdown across the globe, particularly in Nigeria, and declared that this is the appropriate time that Nigerians must use their hands to work assiduously to reduce poverty in the land.
He noted that the nation can only revamp the current bartered economy and thrive in business activities when Nigerians are doing it with all honesty adding that any business activity based on lies and corrupt tendencies cannot stand.
While commending the organisers of the training workshop for doing the right thing at the right time, Reverend Kehinde maintained that the training workshop was part of efforts towards assisting in revamping the nation’s economy.
He said: “God is still in control of the economy. He is the owner of gold and silver. God is here with us. There are abound opportunities and we have to tap them for our benefit and reduce poverty among the citizenry.”
Dr. Olumide Ajayi, Director, CBN-Entrepreneurial Development Centre,  while speaking on the occasion said that the centre was set up by the apex bank to give entrepreneurial requisite training for people to realise their goal of setting up their businesses adding that through the centre, lots of micro, small and medium scale enterprises had been created to boost the economy.
He therefore charged the participants to utilise the knowledge they gained by embarking on training others for the betterment of the nation.
Mrs. Oluyemisi Adebayo and Mr. Dayo Babaranti, Branch Controller of CBN and General Manager, Osun Micro Credit Agency, respectively, urged the participants to be focused and embrace the golden opportunities at their disposal.
Mrs. Adebayo noted that with determination and dedication, Nigerians can earn huge dollars from other sources apart from oil of which the price has fallen at the international market.
According to her, CBN wants every Nigerian to process their product to add value to it so as to have standard.
She also encouraged them to keep their business earnings with bank in order to have access to loans and seek future assistance from the government.
Comrade Ayo Afolabi, President of Betheljoy Professionals Awareness Initiative and Co-operatives, in his opening remarks said that the workshop was put in place to assist members in fighting poverty adding that members have benefitted from various in-house training programmes organised for them to enhance their advancement.
He, however, charged all stakeholders to look inward on how best the nation can increase her productivity especially in the agricultural and solid mineral sector to reduce the tension for demand for dollars and boost local entrepreneurship.
